The festival of Lammas marks the first harvest of the year. The fields are full with corn and grain. Lughnasadh (Gaelic) marks the time of the harvest season. But it also the festival of the ancient earth goddess Tailtiu. The time when she sacrificed herself to feed her people. When she felled the last tree she fell and died. She worked to exhaustion preparing the earth for human survival. Her foster son Lugh established the festival in her honour.

Today many rivers run dry in Europe, such as the Rhine, Danube and Elbe. While we enjoy the sun in the UK, the heat sucks the soil dry. Hosepipe ban in London and Thames Valley due to low rainfall.Crop yields are under pressure in Southern, central and eastern England.

There is a need for balance. The 1st of August 3 years ago was a quite rainy one. Let’s call upon those clouds to revitalise the soil. The Earth is thirsty.

This gathering is an experiential and pratical one within a Wiccan frame work, with a strong emphasis on the elements. It will happen in a balanced way to avoid calling up storms. As torrential rain falls on dry soil causes severe surface runoff and can cause flash floods. If it starts to rain before the ritual we will still work with those energies.

Grounding and protection practices will be introduced and used from the beginning of the session to support clarity, safety, and containment throughout the work.

Please bring:

  • water / hydration
  • water as an offering (see instructions below)
  • food and drink for grounding afterwards
  • do some preparation before hand: it can be at simple as taking a shower with full awareness and gratitude or visiting open water.

In the days leading up try connect with the element of water and air. Feel the quality of those elements. Spend some time near water. May be you can go out early in the morning or in the evening when the air is cool and feel the soothing effect.

Collect some water from a safe source, or use tap or filtered water.
Blessed in your way i.e. bay leafs, magical plants, words, music, crystals etc. with gratitude. Bring it with you in a container. If you have a water drum and are able to bring it please do.
